ONCE IN A LIFETIME
The Schumacher, a historic Romanesque Revival-style print atelier was re-envisioned in a boutique address of 20 two- to four-bedroom residences. Thoughtfully restored to its original grandeur by team of visionary tastemakers, the loft residences have a timeless appeal and enduring quality.
The Schumacher was constructed in 1885 to house the Schumacher and Ettlinger lithographic printing business. Designed by Edward E. Raht, the 6-story structure is in the Romanesque Revival style and included flourishes such as corbelled brick layering, ornamental overhangs, radiating lintels, arched windows, as well as parapets and turrets.
Award winning architectural lighting design firm Focus Lighting was awarded the lighting design for The Schumacher. Through the added layer of light, they have created a sense of drama, composition, and balance. They have highlighted the exterior facade of The Schumacher and enhanced the building’s facade and signature pediment by accentuating its inherent architectural beauty with light.
To ensure timeless appeal and enduring quality for this transformation, 36 Bleecker, Owner LP, an affiliate company of Stillman Development International LLC, has assembled a talented team of visionary tastemakers, including Morris Adjmi of Morris Adjmi Architects for architecture and interiors, celebrated gallerist Cristina Grajales for the curation of public spaces, the renowned Ken Smith, who designed the MoMA's legendary outdoor spaces, for the conceptualization and execution of the building's glorious courtyard garden, and Focus Lighting, Inc. of Space Shuttle Museum fame for all lighting throughout. Resplendent with loft-like grandeur, the residences include oversized windows that usher in brilliant light, hand-selected artisanal finishes, and sprawling layouts, all exuding an easy elegance that defines modern, luxurious living.
